Cultural heritage of the Christian presence in the Holy Land: ATS Pro Terra Sancta will support the restauration and enlargement of the library of the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum to improve teaching activities and biblical and archeological research in Jerusalem.

The project represents a important step in order to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Custody of the Holy Land and to make the Holy Land and the history of Christian presence in the Middle East known to the whole world, both Christian and not.

Un progetto culturale a sostegno delle pietre della memoria di Terra Santa: ATS Pro Terra Sancta sosterrà i lavori di restauro e ampliamento della biblioteca dello Studium Biblicum Franciscanum in Città vecchia a Gerusalemme.

La biblioteca dello Studium Biblicum Franciscanum è un tesoro da custodire e diffondere affinchè la conoscenza e la consapevolezza della storia e presenza cristiana in Terra Santa aumentino e possano essere diffuse in tutto il mondo.

Studium Biblicum Franciscanum: the library in Jerusalem

The Studium Biblicum Franciscanum of Jerusalem (SBF) is a Faculty of Biblical Sciences and Archaeology. In 1901, the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land began planning a center for biblical studies in Jerusalem and these plans led to the establishment of the SBF in 1924. Located inside the Flagellation Monastery in the Via Dolorosa, the SBF offers degree and non-degree programs of studies in biblical interpretation and in archaeology.

The SBF conducts biblical research under a linguistic, historical, exegetical and environmental point of view. It focuses furthermore on the biblical archeology and in particular on the excavation of sites associated with sites associated with the New Testament and early Christianity in the Middle East.

The SBF owns a library, which is open to public and specialized in holdings in archaeology, the ancient Near East, biblical studies, patristics, early Judaism, and itineraries of the Holy Land. Its collection numbers about 50,000 volumes including 420 journals.

The main objective of this project is the Restoration and enlargement of the SBF library

In particular it is necessary to:

Enlarge the library’s spaces by adapting new rooms;
Restore and equip the existing space in order to improve the exhibition and conservation of books;
Provide the library with a new electrical, heating and air conditioning system which will improve the use of the library by visitors. Security aspects will also be improved together with the installation of a fire alarm system.

Lo Studium Biblicum Franciscanum, istituzione universitaria per la ricerca e l’insegnamento scientifico della Sacra Scrittura e dell’archeologia dei paesi biblici, conduce ricerche bibliche dedicandosi in particolar modo a lla riscoperta dei Luoghi Santi del Nuovo Testamento e della Chiesa primitiva in Terra Santa e nel Medio Oriente. Lo Studium Biblicum Franciscanum rilascia inoltre i gradi accedemici pontifici di Licenza e Dottorato in Scienze Bibliche e Archeologia e organizza convegni e giornate di studio, e corsi di aggiornamento biblico e di formazione per gli animatori di pellegrinaggi in Terra Santa.

Lo SBF dispone di una biblioteca specializzata, aperta al pubblico, contenente circa 50.000 volumi e 420 riviste di archeologia, studi biblici, patristica, giudaismo, oriente antico e itinerari di Terra Santa.

Obiettivi:

Ingrandire lo spazio dedicato alla biblioteca adattando nuovi locali;
Restaurare e attrezzare lo spazio esistente per migliorare l’esposizione e la conservazione dei libri;
Dotare la struttura di nuovi impianti elettrico, di riscaldamento e di aria condizionata che miglioreranno le condizioni di utilizzo della biblioteca da parte dei frequentatori. Saranno inoltre aggiornate le condizioni di sicurezza e installati impianti di allarme e antincendio

Christians in Gaza: the ATS Pro Terra Sancta project starts

Official start for the ATS Pro Terra Sancta project in Gaza: ATS Pro Terra Sancta will continue helping the Christians in Gaza by supporting the disabled people- Christians and Muslims- in Gaza.

“Gaza emergency- we are taking charge”- the project will support two facilities recently founded within the Christian community on the Gaza Strip to provide help and assistance to disabled people- Christians and Muslims in Gaza, offering training and education regarding respecting and taking care of disabled people in Palestinian society. The project will be implemented thanks to the generous donations of private and institutional donors for the Christian community in Gaza and the needs of disabled people in Gaza.

Offizieller Start des von ATS Pro Terra Sancta unterstützten Projektes zu Gunsten der Christen in Gaza und insbesondere der behinderten Kinder und Jugendlichen, die von christlichen religiösen Gemeinschaften in Gaza aufgenommen werden.

“Notfall Gaza und Bethlehem– Unterstützung der Behinderten in Gaza”- ein Projekt, das mit dem Ziel begonnen wurde, auch weiterhin die christliche Gemeinschaft in Gaza zu unterstützen, die nach wie vor als Folge des letztjährigen Krieges leidet und oft unter schweren Umständen lebt. Die Spenden, die von ATS Pro Terra Sancta zu Gunsten der Christen mit Behinderungen in Gaza gesammelt wurden und werden, dienen in erster Linie zur Verbesserung der existierenden Aufnahmezentren (Anpassung an die Bedürfnisse behinderter Menschen, Entfernung baulicher Hindernisse) und zur Aufnahme jeweiliger Notfälle. In den nächsten Monaten werden auch Fortbildungskurse für Betreuer und Familien angeboten werden, um den Umgang mit behinderten Menschen zu verbessern und vereinfachen.

Gaza e i cristiani: parte il progetto di ATS Pro Terra Sancta a Gaza

Parte ufficialmente il progetto promosso da ATS Pro Terra Sancta a favore dei cristiani di Gaza, e in particolar modo a favore dei bambini e ragazzi disabili accolti da alcune comunità religiose cristiane nella Striscia di Gaza.

“Emergenza Gaza: farsi carico degli ultimi in Terra Santa”, un progetto nato con l’intento di continuare a sostenere la comunità cristiana di Gaza, fortemente colpita dal conflitto del 2009 e dall’embargo che da diversi anni limita l’accesso di beni e materie prime a Gaza. I fondi raccolti grazie al contributo di donatori privati e istituzionali serviranno per sostenere le attività cristiane di accoglienza dei disabili, permettendo in primo luogo il restauro di ambienti, l’adattamento alle esigenze di persone disabili, l’acquisto di medicinali e attrezzature e il recupero di casi di emergenza. In seguito saranno realizzate anche attività di formazione per operatori e famiglie, in modo da permettere una migliore accoglienza e una maggiore consapevolezza dei bisogni e delle possibilità di aiuto effettivo da rivolgere alle persone con problemi fisici e difficoltà motorie e di espressione.

ATS Pro Terra Sancta sostiene i cristiani a Gaza e le attività della Parrocchia cattolica “Sacra famiglia” dal 2009, nella convinzione che, dato il lungo e persistente conflitto e l’operazione “piombo fuso”, il supporto alla popolazione della Striscia sia di fondamentale importanza.

The numerous activities of the Franciscan friars of the Custody of the Holy Land in the Holy Land, implemented with the help of ATS Pro Terra Sancta, can only be realized through generous donations and the important assistance of volunteers from all over the world.

L’histoire de Terre Sainte : préserver et promouvoir le patrimoine culturel de la Custodie de Terre Sainte

Le projet fait partie d’une série d’initiatives lancées par le Custode de Terre Sainte qui vise à préserver les “pierres de la mémoire” et soutenir les “pierres vivantes” de Terre Sainte. L’objectif des activités prévues est de classer, préserver et recenser le patrimoine de la Custodie de Terre Sainte qui, depuis les huit derniers siècles, au nom de la chrétienté, se charge de sauver et de garder les lieux saints (…)
