Christmas in the Holy Land

Giacomo Pizzi12 October 2010

Two dates for an exemplary collaboration in the Holy Land, three high-level musical encounters in the Holy Sites of Jerusalem and Bethlehem: the  Institute Magnificat of the Custody of the Holy Land and the Orchestra of the Accademia delle Opere will perform together to celebrate Christmas with the Christian population of the Holy Land.

Non nobis- Christmas in the Holy Land – this is the title of the initiative supported by ATS Pro Terra Sancta with two concerts and a performance during the Midnight Mass in Bethlehem. During these three special moments classical Christmas pieces will be performed along with sacred music by great composers – a program dedicated to the essence of traditional music by the title of  “Non nobis Domine, sed nomini Tuo da gloriam – Not to us, o Lord, but to your name give glory!” These words from the incipit of Psalm 115 express the desire of the organizers of the Christmas concerts and of the musicians and singers that will perform: to play and to sing for the glory of God, have voices and hands create beauty to praise the Lord and make Him praised.

The concerts will take place respectively on December 23rd 2010 in the Immaculata Hall in Jerusalem and on December 24th at 5p.m. in the Crusaders’Hall in Bethlehem. The Institute Magnificat and the Orchestra of the Accademia delle Opere will accompany the celebration of the Midnight Mass on Christmas in the Nativity Church, next to the cave where “it all began”.
