Support the Syrian and Iraqi refugees in Lebanon, Jordan and Rhodes

The aim of the project is to help the Christian Syrian and Iraqi refugees of the Middle East by supporting the work of the Franciscan friars in the countries affected by this humanitarian crisis.

Since the beginning of the wars that have shaken the Middle East in recent years, particularly in Syria and Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan are the countries that had to accommodate the largest number of refugees. Also Greece has become a country of destination for many refugees in recent months, particularly the islands of Rhodes and Kos. Thousands of families, mostly Christians who are persecuted for their faith, flee their homes and communities in search of a better life in these Countries.

With this project, we want to improve the living conditions of people that have been marginalized because of their faith, forced to flee their homes and who now find themselves in a very vulnerable situation.

Activities we support

The Franciscan friars of the Custody of the Holy Land in Lebanon, Jordan and Rhodes are taking care of the refugees on a daily basis, regardless of creed or origin, helping the sick, children, elderly people and the poorest families. They deal with basic needs, and support youth integration in Lebanese schools.

These are essential activities to ensure not only their future, but also a semblance of normalcy.

We support particularly:

  • Distribution of food and medicines to the needy;
  • Finding accommodation and housing;
  • Providing recreational and pastoral activities for children and youth, such as catechism and other moments of sharing in the parish.

We want to help the refugees of Syria and Iraq, by supporting the work of the Custody of the Holy Land. In this way, we seek to embrace all the persecuted Christians, their sufferings and anxieties, sharing the pain of people who have lost everything.
