Terra Sancta Organ Festival

The aim of the project is to support culture in the Holy Land involving the local community. With the restoration of pipe organs, we would create training opportunities for young local organists.

The Terra Sancta Organ Festival is a cultural and musical activity presented by the Custody of the Holy Land, offering everyone the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of its heritage of pipe organs that otherwise would be limited to liturgical services for Latin-Rite Catholics.

The sound of the organ is a sign of the Christian presence and might be used as the voice of Christians in those parts of the Holy Land where their life is constantly threatened.  The International Festival then, is not only a leisure moment of art and culture, but also a public event witnessing the Christian presence in areas that are so important for our religion. Unfortunately, Christians these same areas are discriminated and are socially marginalized.

Our desire is to allow the use of pipe organs for liturgies and concerts open to everyone: Christians, Jews and Muslims.

  • Help to the Churches unable to afford the expenses for restoration and maintenance of the instruments. In Cyprus and Egypt organs need to be restored, Rhodes and Jaffa (next to the sea)constant interventions are needed because of the salt, while our churches in Lebanon do not have any pipe organs.
  • Training for local young organists since there is a great demand for organists throughout the Holy Land thus constituting a great job opportunity.

Support the Terra Sancta Organ Festival

The first edition of the festival took place in Israel and Palestine on November 2014, following a “Prelude” from the 30th of September to 4 October on the Greek island of Rhodes. On 2015 some concerts took place also in Jordan and Cyprus.

Our hope is that over time the festival will be able to reach the other places where the Custody of the Holy Land is present: Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and … Syria.
