The fifth Day of Volunteers for the Holy Land to be held in Rome

Giacomo Pizzi31 August 2012

The by-now customary encounter between the Father Custos and the volunteers working in support of projects in the Holy Land, now in its fifth edition, will focus on current events and the prospects for the Christian communities as a result of the Arab Spring.

The Day for associations and volunteers of the Holy Land, organized by the publishing house Edizioni Terra Santa, will take place this year on Saturday 20 October from 10.30 to approximately 19.00 at the Antonianum Auditorium in Rome. The theme of this fifth edition will be closely linked to current developments: Christians and the Arab Spring. What prospects for the future?

In light of the events of 2011-2012, what does the future hold for the Christian community in the Middle East? What are the particular areas of concern for the bishops? And what are the difficulties, and hopes, of the faithful? On 20 October we will be able to listen to the accounts of a number of Christians from the Holy Land and become closer to them.

As those who have participated in previous editions already know, this will represent an important opportunity for learning, interchange and mutual understanding, with the participation of the Custos of the Holy Land, fra Pierbattista Pizzaballa. As is the case each year, collaborators and volunteers of ATS pro Terra Sancta will also be present.

Associations and volunteers will have the opportunity to present their own activities and initiatives, and to make proposals and submit requests. The Custody of the Holy Land will also take advantage of this occasion to thank those who have been aiding the Christians of the Middle East.

Organizational notes:

The registration fee and the final program will be announced as soon as possible. The deadline for registration will be Friday 5 October, and attendees should indicate whether or not they intend to remain for lunch.
