Sebastia-Samaria

The only Christian family in Sebastia

Sebastia, founded by Herod the Great, on the edge of the ruins of ancient Samaria, a city rich in archaeological ruins from the Roman and Byzantine eras, where the tomb of St. John the Baptist can also be found, has been admired for a long time because of all of the ancient wonders that have been rediscovered there; it is on a route that pilgrims rarely ever take.

Nowadays, the Christian presence in Sebastia offers more questions than answers. It has in fact been reduced down to a single family, who finds itself living in the midst of more than 3,000 Muslims, and consists of a father, mother and their three children, and who, because of the difficult situation, are living apart from the rest of their family.
