The reading device: Books as a technique for the preservation of texts in the East and West, from the Middle Ages to Today

From the 3rd to the 5th November 2015, there will be an exhibition, organized by the General Library of the Custody of the Holy Land, entitled: – The device for reading. Books as a technique for the preservation of text in the East and the West, from the Middle Ages to Today. The exhibition was also possible through the collaboration with Association pro Terra Sancta and the European Research Centre Book Publishing and Library ( CRELEB) of the Catholic University of Milan.

More than 40 ancient examples will be exposed, showing the different methods for the conservation of texts from different cultures and societies. The aim is to help to reflect on the evolution of the book from its origin to the present day, characterized by the digital book (e-book).

The exhibition will be officially inaugurated on the 3rd of November by the Custos of the Holy Land, the Very Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa. While Professor Gino Roncaglia (University of Tuscia in Viterbo, Italy) will give a lecture titled Past, Present and Future of the Book, which will be held on 4th November at 5 pm.
