Holy Week is that seven-day period that extends from Palm Sunday, the day on which, according to tradition, the arrival of Jesus in the city of Jerusalem is celebrated, until Holy Saturday and Sunday, or Easter Day, where the resurrection of Christ is celebrated.

Surely the most important days of Holy Week are those of the Easter Triduum, or the 3 days preceding Easter Sunday, in which the Memorial of the Passion and Death of Jesus is made, before the Resurrection on Easter Day.

Holy Thursday is the day on which the Last Supper is remembered, when Jesus instituted the Eucharist, greeted the twelve apostles and forgave those who betrayed him. The most famous rite of Holy Thursday is certainly the washing of the feet.

Holy Saturday is the so-called “day of silence”, or the only day of Holy Week in which there is no celebration of any liturgy: there are in fact no masses and the Eucharist is given only to those who are on the point of death. The religious rites of Holy Saturday in fact begin at nightfall.
