Work continues to create the “Aid Center for Migrants” in Cyprus – part of the province of the Custody of the Hold Land -, thanks to the commitment of the Sri Lankan Sisters of Perpetual Help.
The center, due to be completed within a year, is already a reference point for many migrants (men, women and children) hailing from Asian and African countries, specifically Sri Lanka and sub-Saharan Africa.
Activities include spiritual involvement during prayer at the nearby temporary pastoral counseling center. These activities are largely aimed at troubled women, due to inability to find work or family instability. The Sisters at the center offer these women help, helping them to learn a trade and putting them into contact with people looking for workers.
The center has also introduced English language courses for adults and lessons in religious studies and English taught in Sinhala (the spoken language of Sri Lanka) for children.
Thanks to the generous support of our many friends, ATS pro Terra Sancta can continue to support the activities of the Sisters of Perpetual Help as they work alongside the Custody’s Franciscan parish priest.
