Emergency in Egypt: the exodus of the Christian communities continues

At this critical juncture of the political and economic situation in Egypt, the exodus of Christians continues unabated. According to Msgr. Antonios Aziz Mina, Bishop of Giza, interviewed on Radio Vatican, “There are a number of explanations for this phenomenon, but the most important reason is insecurity:  after the revolution no one knows what to expect.

Some sources speak of a further 100,000 Copts who have already left Egypt. This exodus “leaves an enormous emptiness”, inasmuch as the Christian communities were already in a very tenuous position vis-à-vis the Muslim population

In this difficult context, the Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land are continuing their efforts to support Christians and the local population as a whole. ATS pro Terra Sancta, through its project “Egypt: aid to the Christians” continues to support different activities to provide shelter, support and aid to the families in Cairo most in need.
