context & objective
Due to economic hardship, Christian communities in the Holy Land are seeing a worrying population drop. In Jerusalem, in particular, a dramatic process of Christian citizens selling their property and depopulating the old neighborhoods surrounding the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher and other Holy Places is ongoing.
Pro Terra Sancta aims to protect Christian settlements in Jerusalem, as well as to encourage local communities to establish roots in their homeland and to preserve Christian heritage in the Holy Land. The Finding Home initiative involves the rehabilitation of residences, currently in the hands of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land and their distribution to families from the Christian community in Jerusalem’s old city.
To stimulate local manufacturing, the restored buildings are frequently used to hold productive and entrepreneurial activities.
