Syria/Knaye and Yacoubieh – Lessons of hope
Syria
context & objective
The Syrian conflict has the most severe implications for the children, both boys and girls. Hunger, poverty, and the traumas of war have left profound scars on them, and only a small percentage of Syrian youth are able to continue their studies. There are a lack of teachers, literature, and most importantly, facilities: only one out of three schools in Syria is unusable due to the war or confiscation for military objectives.
Syrian girls and boys represent the hope for a country on the verge of rebirth. As a result, it is particularly concerning that many of them suffer learning and behavioral issues as a result of war violence. Professors frequently resign themselves to the ‘last of the class.’
Pro Terra Sancta is committed to guaranteeing a future also and above all for the ‘last’. We support some local schools in order to provide more diverse and comprehensive educational opportunities for all children. Pro Terra Sancta then provided funding to the area’s only kindergarten for the acquisition of instructional materials as well as the rehabilitation of certain destroyed facilities
