CONTEXT & OBJECTIVE
Girls and boys are currently paying the biggest price in Syria’s decades-long conflict. In Aleppo, the hub of the fighting between 2014 and 2016, aggressive conduct, as well as drug trafficking and use, increased among young people as a source of income and a barrier to despair.
The friars of the Holy Land Custody were entrusted with the task of turning these young people’s lives around. Since 2018, he Franciscan Care Center (FCC) has been operating at the Terra Sancta College in Aleppo.
Pro Terra Sancta is active alongside the friars of the Custody in animating the FCC. More than 1000 children are supported by the FCC, and each one is closely monitored and assisted by a medical and psychiatric staff paid for by the initiative. Sports, art, language (English and French), and music courses are all offered at the FCC, with the goal of bringing girls and boys together in a healthy environment and providing them with a promising future. Within the FCC, actual psychological and physical rehabilitation pathways are developed for all kids in extremely unstable situations, as well as their families.
