Syria: new medical equipment for the hospital in Aleppo

Giacomo Pizzi1 December 2015

In the ongoing dramatic situation of Aleppo and of the whole Syria, health emergency level is still high.

Thanks to the support of many small donors and some Institutional donors, such as the Misereor Foundation (Germany), the Association pro Terra Sancta has been able to coordinate the arrival of new medical equipment and machinery for the hospital in Aleppo.

The aim of the operation is to maintain the hospital’s standards, which means to ensure the care and the assistance to the wounded of war and for orthopedic emergencies. The total of hospitalized people is of about 3.000/3.500 a year (compared to the 2.000 a year, before the outbreak of war). The daily admissions vary each day, but the number reaches 50 people in a day, during emergencies.

The pictures below show the arrival of the new machinery. Among these, the most important is the DIMAGG Generator set which grants power supply in cases of long black-outs. The Generator was really needed since in Aleppo there have been many black-outs recently.

More equipment is expected to arrive in the next months: an electric generator, an electricity regulator, other electronic respiratory equipment and a machine for angiography. All these were heavily damaged or where destroyed due to the lack of maintenance and the numerous power black-outs caused by bombings around the hospital’s quarter. The arrival of this medical equipment will really save many lives.

Furthermore, thanks to the great support and the contributions, the works for the renovation of the hospital have started, in order to increase the number of beds.

Many thanks to all those who support us in the Syrian Emergency. There still are great needs, and for this reason we continue to help the Syrian population.
