context & Objective
It is in the land of Damascus, the Syrian capital, that Saul of Tarsus was converted to faith in Jesus Christ, thus acquiring the name of Paul. The history of Damascus, like Paul’s, is a testament to love and brutality.
A love that drove the earliest communities of Jesus disciples in Damascus, who were baptised ‘Christians’ for the first time in this land, and a violence that has shocked and damaged the city since 2011, the year the Syrian conflict began.
Pro Terra Sancta restores and renovates abandoned or destroyed properties in the city’s historic center. The Association wishes to revive in them a sense of hope. In addition to the building restoration work, it offers artistic training classes to establish a profound understanding of the historical importance of the region’s cultural legacy with the locals.
In fact, the Association must urgently construct physical structures and create cultural thresholds capable of resuming a renewed discussion in a troubled and terrible land like Damascus.
